What is chiropractic?
A health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation. – Definition by the world federation of chiropractic
What is manipulation?
In chiropractic, we term spinal manipulation as a ‘chiropractic adjustment'.
It is a high velocity, low amplitude thrust delivered to a joint that is fixated or displays aberrant motion. The purpose of the adjustment is to restore movement to joints that have such loss of normal motion.
Often, a ‘click’ or ‘crack’ sound is heard when an adjustment is performed. The sound, although often considered to be scary by some, is not painful.
There are some techniques that are used to correct joint movement without creating a ‘click’ or ‘crack’. It is not dangerous to have spinal manipulation done when performed by a properly trained chiropractor.
